Children who are free to explore, ask questions, and follow their own interests are best equipped to navigate life’s challenges and later will be empowered to create solutions that serve society.
Affording our scholars the opportunity to DO what they love, inspires them to think like those who do those kinds of things. Once proficient in doing what they love and thinking as those "doers" think they will in essence have the knowledge and courage to BE whom they dream to be.
Empowered Minds CC knows that children who follow their dreams have the best chance of becoming adults who are passionate about their lives. They are confident and courageous about the chances that they take. Risk takers push society to evolve and grow. Imagination fuels the contributions and improvements that evolve communities. Children's happiness with themselves and their talents should be an inspiration to the world.
The schedule has been slightly modified to adapt to the needs of our scholars.
Tuesday - Science
This is a key ingredient to critical thinking.We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements. Our scholars are a big part of this process. The opportunity to examine and question leads to new discoveries and creative possibilities. Far more is learned from unexpected outcomes then expected ones and is certainly much more fun. Being able to examine unpredictable situations and explain the unexpected results is a talent that stretches the imagination and incubates creativity. We encourage investigation of "mistakes" and reinterpretation of "wrong". Realizing that even errors can be productive and useful, exemplifies the concept of failing forward.
Wednesday - Language Arts
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us ensure that our scholars are better prepared to manage the unique situations they find themselves in. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it. Through creative and colorful scenarios and activities, scholars dare to manipulate concepts and theories around accepted norms. Being able to effectively communicate ones thoughts exemplifies clarity of thought and is evidence of sound mastery. For those who struggle with expression, alternative dissemination is accepted while mastery is cultivated.
Thursday - Math
Most of our efforts pertaining to this program involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to implement them. Through projects, each child explores concepts in the way that they learn best. The collective community offers alternative perspectives and the staff act as guides to facilitate useful navigation. In this process we challenge our scholars thought processes by having them consider other alternatives as a group. They wade through the information available and use deduction, evaluation and reasoning to determine next steps.
